WHAT IS EID AND WHY EID GIFTS ARE
SO SPECIAL?
The festival of Eid is the
greatest one for Islamic world. Muslims around the world spend two Eids, one is
the Eid Ul Fitr that comes first after the month of Ramadan. The month of
Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims in which all the blessing of Allah are
showered upon Muslims. God orders them to stay without food and water from
morning till evening; therefore they make it special by obeying the God’s
command and prove him their loyalty. As a gift of obedience and patience for
the Muslims, Allah gives them the gift of Eid which is known as Eid Ul Fitr.
The second time Muslims
celebrate Eid is the occasion of Haj and the Eid that comes after the Haj is
called Eid Ul Azha. That is celebrated in the memory of Hazrat Ibrahim and his
Ismail who set an example of obedience for God’s Command. Allah came into the
dream of prophet Ibrahim and said to him that God wants him to sacrifice his
beloved son Islamic. The enemy Satan tempted him and appeared before him to
tell him that not to obey God and not to sacrifice his son for his willingness.
The miracle of God happened and Ibrahim
was about to sacrifice his son when God had sent him a lamb and told him that
he has passed his test.
On that day, the menu for
Eid Ul Azha was set; Allah gave him a lamb to sacrifice. Eid ul Adha is a
public holiday in Muslim countries and it is being celebrated with Islamic
spirit and Islamic values by giving a lamb for sacrifice. The Christians can
also find a reference of this in the following manner: Here God asked Abraham
to sacrifice his son Isaac, his son with Sarah. Ismail was his son with Hagar.
Different countries have different places and ways to slaughter the animals.
For example, the sheep and lambs are being sacrificed in the name of Allah in
the homes, hotels etc. The sheep are being sacrificed in Britain in the
slaughter houses made for this purpose exactly.
The share of the meat is not
same for everyone. According to the teachings of Islam, we share and distribute
the meat of animals according to the will of Allah which is to share the meat
among family, friends and the poor, who each get a third share. Muslims also
get dressed in the best clothes and the prayers start in the mosques in the
early morning. Eid without gift is an Eid not special and memorable. When the
