SABTrends storms the movie industry with an  Exclusive Interview with Popular Artistes who Featured in the Most Anticipated Movie Titled 'Lamidi Badoo'

The most anticipated movie titled 'Lamidi Badoo' which set to be released soon has been the target of SABTrends Blog this week. 

The 'Lamidi Badoo' movie is an anticipated  Yoruba movie which is set to be released soon. The Yoruba movie featured many top and popular Yoruba actors. We have been working relentless to interview the team of that movie. However, thanks to a brother, friend and a team of SABTrends who did excellently to interview the crew members and popular artiste who featured in the movie.

HOW WAS THE LAMIDI BADOO EXPERIENCE?

Lamidi Badoo was a bomb. Initially, I was skeptical when I got a call for the role but the creativity and the fact that the movie was different from what I’ve done in the past was enough motivation. It was a movie where I needed to think on my feet and had to follow the pace of the director’s line of action.

YOU DON’T STRIKE ME AS A SINGER?

I don’t sing that well but I had to in Lamidi Badoo albeit in a humorous way. Acting is creative pretence and I had to pretend I am a singer and I did pretend well.

HOW WOULD YOU RATE LAMIDI BADOO?

Lamidi Badoo is a good work and I see it going places. I see the producer soaring higher than the eagle and all I can say is...watch out for him.

WHY LAMIDI BADOO?

The concept was borne out of my fascination for the great Olamide Baddo when I had an encounter with his classical rendition of Eni Duro. I decided to create a play that will showcase the immense wealth of talents that we have in this country. Some of the performers are real artiste all aspiring towards stardom. This movie is my way of saying fraud doesn’t pay and originality enmeshed in creativity will birth greatness.


YOU ARE A CINEMATOGRAPHER, DIRECTOR, EDITOR, PRODUCER AND WRITER, HOW DO YOU JUGGLE ALL THESE TOGETHER AND DO YOU THINK YOUR JACK OF ALL TRADE WILL BE A MASTER OF SOMETHING?

I started as an actor, delved into directing but because I wanted to be a great director I had to learn the other elements of film making which you just mentioned. The lack of resources has made me to push myself into those elements in order to cut cost. However, I am training personnel now to handle other aspect while I focus mainly on directing and my original passion which is acting.


LAMIDI BADOO IS A COMEDY WHY?

People don’t understand that my first film was a tragic story and my second was a martial art thriller titled Juyang Omo Ibadan. I chose the genre of comedy to tell the Baddo story because I felt it will be the most effective weapon. Unlike other comedy film, this film tells a good love story between Lamidi and funke his rivalry with Jagba and the confusion with Alao and his wife Fefe.

IJEBU

YOU SPOKE NORMAL YORUBA AND NOT THE IJEBU DIALECT WHY?

When the producer gave me the script and concept, I did my home work and later when he shared with me his plan to hear me speak the usual dialect I switched to it. At the end sha, I had to switch back to my Ijebu, you know that’s my signature.


WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON LAMIDI BADOO?

Lamidi Badoo is a unique, interesting and highly engaging story.  I played the role of a young man pretending to be Olamide who comes to fool the people of a village, taking their women and their money.

There is also a local version of a musical competition. The film is of no equal and one of my most challenging roll so far. I even tried rapping. I see the film breaking boundaries and staying on people's shelves for decades.


WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO ALL YOUR FANS OUT THERE

To all my fans out there, it’s still your man Ijebu and when you all pick up a copy of Lamidi Badoo you will see your me breaking boundaries, in a way you have never seen me before.

AS A VETERAN DIRECTOR AND ACTOR, HOW WERE YOU ABLE TO PLAY THE ROLE Of ALAO TO PERFECTION?

When I got the script I laughed because the role was definitely out of the usual role I play in movies and by the way I am also a veteran actor and that was why I took it upon myself to deliver the demands of the character Alao, a wannabe rapper and an overly jealous husband.


WHAT’S YOUR VIEW ABOUT THE PRODUCER AKIN ADEWOLE?

Akin Adewole is one of the craziest and talented film makers in Nigeria. As a film maker for decades I know rare gem when I see one. I see him going places and this is one of the numerous works we will be doing together.


YOU HAVE SEEN LOTS OF FILM SUCCESSES, WHERE DO YOU SEE LAMIDI BADOO?

I do not see Lamidi Badoo as a movie that will swept under the carpet, I see it as a movie that will be placed in libraries of film schools in the world, I see it on people’s show-glasses and in national archives.

HOW DID YOU MEET THE PRODUCER?

I met him at the Director’s conference of TAMPAN where Kunle Afolayan came to deliver his lecture. When I first met Akin Adewole I knew within me that he is the right producer and director I needed to team up with because by then I had produced and directed my first movie and as a script writer a lot of my stories had adorned the giant screens of cinemas. Akin at that time had produced two movies and was to embark on the third one. In fact the only reason I joined in directing was because he was acting a sensitive role, otherwise he would have directed it perfectly well, all by himself. So, together we rearranged the script, shopped for the right casts and the rest is now a glorious story.


LAMIDI BADOO IS ALSO CONSIDERED SLAPSTICK AND A FARCE MADE TO JUST MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH?

Lamidi badoo is not a farcical work and its attempt to combine the art of storytelling, elements of tragedy spiced with comedy and the musical competitions makes it a wholesome work having bits of basically everything: suspense, intrigue, humour and entertainment.

Lamidi Badoo is the answer to struggles in the entertainment industry of Nigeria. It is arguable one of the most inspirational movies

produced in Nigeria and not just another comedy though it is comic.

YOU PLAYED THE ROLE OF FUNKE, HOW CHALLENGING WAS IT?

It was obviously my most challenging role.  Initially someone was meant to play that part but at last minute I was contacted because of my seemingly closeness with the personality trait of that character called Funke.I saw myself delving into the secret life of the lady .

The ordeal of being a village beauty torn between the love of her life and the wish of her Parent to marry the notorious Jagba, I think viewers will be the judge of my performance but I gave everything to that role and now people call me Funke but my name is Toyosi


YOUR CHARACTER WAS TORN BETWEEN LOVE AND MONEY, WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE IN REAL LIFE? LOVE OR MONEY?

I will choose both. Please don’t ask me why.


PEOPLE SAY LAMIDI BADOO IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF MOVIE WHY?

This movie is one of its kind and I’ll tell you that after the shoot all the crew and cast automatically bonded, it was like a commitment to everlasting friendship. This movie is going to make you laugh so hard and make you cry so deep. It’s only Lamidi Badoo that will do that to you.

WHO IS JAGBA?

Jagba is the character I played in the award winning movie Lamidi Badoo. Like the name of the character O jagba! It’s a Yoruba name meaning someone forcefully collecting something from somebody. I became the villain of the story and the major roadblock to Lamidi achieving his dream of marrying his heartthrob called Funke. Jagba is a face you don’t wanna see in your everyday life, but we have people in our lives playing Jagba and may the Lord deliver us from them.

Jagba will ironically become the only person who will not be deceived by the con artist brought in by Lamidi (Akin Adewole).


IS LAMIDI BADOO A FANTASY?

Lamidi Badoo may have the frame of fantasy but it is the real story of an average Nigerian wannabes and any upcoming performer be it singer, rapper, actor or comedian. It shows our struggle and the compromises on our way. I believe any creative person or artiste who watches this movie will see how we can make it without cutting corners like the character Lamidi or Jagba.
