Procrastination as a negative attitude has been discussed in our previous post on how to overcome it, forces you to do the unnecessary thing at the moment when you are supposed to a right task. For example, instead of you finding solutions to the assignment given to you, you use that golden time to fancy around with your phones or watching series of movies on television or laptop.
Procrastination as you know is the thief of time which needs to be overcome. Do you know you can overcome this ugly feeling called procrastination? As people we say, procrastination might not be easily avoided entirely but I believe by implementing these top five (5) effective ways to overcome procrastination, it will help to accomplish necessary tasks at the right time.
As a student, you cannot rule out this ugly feeling because sometimes you might feel tired, bored and so on. These feelings kick-start your mind for procrastination, hereby abandon your notebook, reading-note, project or assignment. Do you know you can procrastinate when you are already set to read your books or do an assignment if you suddenly realize that you forgot to do something very important.
Many things can surely take your mind off or distract you at the time you should spend doing your assignment or reading your books. The following items listed below are top five (5) tips to overcome procrastination as a student.
1- TURN OFF MUSIC BEFORE READING OR STARTING AN ASSIGNMENT: I feel somehow astonished when I see students listen to music and at the same time reading their books. Many of these students claim to concentrate on reading while listening to music with earpiece or headset.
2- MAKE SNACK OR DRINK AVAILABLE ON YOUR DESK: Many people seem to procrastinate their reading or assignment because no refreshment to satisfy their thirsty at the moment. Bringing of snack or drink along to where you want to read or do an assignment will not tempt your concentration away.
3- TURN OFF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA NOTIFICATIONS: Many students when reading books or doing an assignment devote more attention to their social media notifications; the likes of facebook, twitter, linked-in, instagram, bbm, whatsapp and others. Turning off these social media notification will make you concentrate better on the task at hand.
4- TURN OFF YOUR MOBILE PHONE: Sacrifice a little hours you want spent to read or do a task by turning off your mobile phone. If you really want to fully concentrate on the task at hand at that moment.
5- TURN OFF YOUR TELEVISION OR LAPTOP: Reading of books or doing an assignment simultaneous with watching films on your TV or laptop is a bad habit. If the movie gets interesting , I promise you, you will say 'I have more time I can read later or tomorrow' or 'I will do the assignment later'. With this, procrastination has set in. Kindly turn off your television or laptop for that period.
