Known to many as, "Ms. Cindy," Cindy Tawiah is the creator and owner of the Diva By Cindy hair care system and its philanthropic efforts, The Diva Project.
Inspired by a chemistry teacher, at the age of sixteen, Cindy began experimenting with making beauty products. Her love of chemistry never left her, and in 2007, Cindy created the Diva By Cindy hair care product line.
Prior to creating the Diva By Cindy hair care system, Cindy worked as a registered nurse for 13 years. Her bedside manner transcended the traditional medical field and became the impetus for her entrepreneurial efforts. Cindy is passionate about women and serving their whole being, and it shows through her outreach.
Cindy created Diva By Cindy products to enrich and inspire women by giving them a superb product that transforms their lives by stopping the hair from shedding and breaking and stimulates healthy hair growth. Ultimately, Cindy seeks to heal, restore, and transform women. One way she achieves this mission is through The Diva Project. Launched in 2004, The Diva Project offers women affected by domestic violence a day of beauty and healing. Sales from Cindy's hair care products support her outreach. Truly, Diva By Cindy is a product with heart!
Cindy lives by six guiding principles: Prayer, Passion, Perseverance, Persistence, Presence, and Positivity!
Deb Bailey: Welcome to the Secrets of Success blog, Cindy! How did you get started as an entrepreneur?
Cindy Tawiah: Thanks, Deb. When I was 16 years old my chemistry teacher taught me how to make nail polish and lipstick because I was failing his class. He inspired me, parental pressure steered me towards a career in the medical field. I felt I never belonged there and after 13years left to follow my passion. I opened a Beauty Salon and developed my hair care products.
Deb: Are there any “lessons learned” from your experiences?
Cindy: Yes , everyone you hire should work as hard as you do . And pay attention to people's actions.
Deb: Who are your ideal clients?
Cindy: Women Who experience haircare challenges. As women we all experience hair shedding and hair breakage to some extent especially when we're not detangling our hair properly my ideal customer as a woman who is losing hair breakage and thinning as a result of traction or tension alopecia and women experience tangled not it matted hair. The Diva By Cindy hair care products over all mission is to give women longer, healthier hair. Our formulas contain natural ingredients and infuse the hair with moisture and stimulate hair growth.
Deb: They sound like awesome products. So, can you share some the successes and challenges you've met while building your business?
Cindy: Diva By Cindy not provides women with excellent hair care products but also supports homeless women and victims of domestic violence hosting beauty makeover days and giving them empowerment seminars. That is one of the things I am most proud about . Being able to make a difference in the lives of over 450 women . Our brand is now currently available on Walmart.com, Giant, Giant Eagle, TOPs , Food Lion and Jewel Osco grocery store chains . I am grateful to God for opening those doors.
My challenges: Finding individuals who will work with integrity and sincerity.
Deb: What inspires you to do the work you do?
Cindy: My passion is women and beauty my purpose is to inspire and empower and heal women and young girls who are broken and abused. They are my inspiration and motivation. I love hearing from women you use our products that my journey inspired them to change. We love hearing about the hair transformation stories but are even more thrilled when we hear about the life transformational ones.
Deb: That's terrific, Cindy. Going forward, what’s your vision for your business?
Cindy: Our vision is to take our Diva Project concept across the country making a day of beauty and healing accessible to all women in shelters across the country.
